When Should You Apply for Home Leave?
“Home Leave” refers to the short break your helper takes to return home, usually for about 2 weeks (14 days) after completing each employment contract in Singapore.
This time allows her to reunite with her family and attend to personal matters before returning to work refreshed.
What to Prepare for Home Leave (Overseas Leave) Application
To ensure a smooth and trouble-free trip, here’s what you should prepare and check:
Valid Passport
Make sure your helper’s passport is valid for at least 6 months.
Embassy Requirements
Confirm her home country’s immigration and travel requirements with the relevant Embassy.
Home Leave Application
Submit her home leave application through her country’s Embassy in Singapore.
Travel Documents
Keep copies of her air tickets (both departure and return).
Re-entry Documents
Remind your helper to bring her Work Permit card and passport for re-entry into Singapore after her home leave.
Note: During this period, employers are eligible to apply for a foreign domestic worker levy waiver and may defer the 6-monthly medical examination if the helper is away.
What to Prepare for Home Leave Application
(Indonesian Helpers Only)
Before your Indonesian helper can travel home for her Home Leave, certain documents must be completed and submitted to the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. This ensures her travel is properly approved and that she can re-enter Singapore smoothly after her break.
1. Home Leave Application Form
- Obtain and complete the “Surat Cuti (Home Leave) Form” from the Indonesian Embassy.
- This form must be signed by both the employer and the helper.
To obtain Home Leave Form her employment contract with the embassy must be renewed:
Renew Employment Contract:
On the date of the appointment, Indonesian Migrant Workers and employers are present with photocopies of:
- Any current or past employment contract
- Work permit card (front and back)
- IC employer (front and back)
- Salary screenshot from SGWorkpass app or other document showing salary
- PMI Passport
- PMI’s KTP or other document showing PMI’s address in Indonesia
This form must be filled in. Can obtain a hardcopy at the embassy.
2. Helper’s Passport (Original + Copy)
- The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the intended travel date.
3. Helper’s Work Permit (Original + Copy)
- A valid work permit is required to confirm employment and for re-entry into Singapore.
4. Employer’s Identification Copy
- A photocopy of the employer’s NRIC or passport for verification.
5. Confirmed Flight Tickets (To and From Singapore)
- Keep printed copies of your helper’s departure and return flight bookings.
